Practical Boating

Summary

This course is designed to familiarize students with the aspects of a proper, safe and confident boating experience. Students will learn about navigation and position awareness, tide and weather conditions, the "Rules of the Road" of boating on NC waterways, how to dock and moor your watercraft, as well as other essentials such as trip planning, necessary vessel lighting and equipment, and safety and emergency protocol. At the end of this class, students who successfully demonstrate understanding of course concepts by completing an examination approved by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) will receive a certification card for completion of boating education, which is required in North Carolina, for any person born on or after January 1, 1988 before operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10 HP or greater on public waterways.
